Double-Blind Evaluation of the Safety and Efficacy of Tenoxicam (Tilcotil) Com 1 aired to Piroxicam in Patients with Degenerative Arthritis

Abstract
|
|
|
A double-blind clinical trial was carried out to compare the efficacy and safety of the newly deve oped tenoxicam with those of piroxicam in 80 cases of degenerative arthritis patients during 5 months from January to May, 1988.
Treatment lasted 6 weeks by equivalent once daily dosage (20 mg). The evaluation of the patient - was done at initial visit and at second and fourth week after initial administration of the drug. The results were as follows:
1. There was marked improvement in global assesment, pain on movement, pain at night and stiffness. The ratios of the patients with improvement were 67%, 70%, 80% and 60%, respectively, in tenoxicam group and 60%, 61%, 69% and 55%, respectively, in piroxicam group.
2. There was no significant changes between pre-and post-treatment laboratory values.
3. There was mild side effect including gastrointestinal disturbance, skin rash and edema in 4 cases (i t %) of tenoxicam group and 11 cases (27.5%) of piroxicam group.
4. In conclusion, tenoxicam was proved to be an excellent anti-inflammatory drug for the treatmen of degnerative arthritis.
